Types of Retinal Conditions
  • Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD): A progressive condition that damages the macula, leading to loss of central vision.
Divided into two types: dry (atrophic) and wet (neovascular).
  • Diabetic Retinopathy A complication of diabetes that affects the blood vessels in the retina.
  • Normal-Tension Glaucoma: In this type, optic nerve damage occurs even though the eye pressure is not very high.
  • Secondary Glaucoma: This type results from another eye condition, injury, or medication.
Can lead to vision impairment and blindness if not managed.
  • Retinal Detachment: Occurs when the retina separates from its underlying tissue.
Requires immediate medical intervention to prevent permanent vision loss.
  • Retinal Vein Occlusion: Blockage of veins in the retina, similar to a stroke.
Can result in sudden vision loss.
  • Retinal Tears: Small breaks in the retina that can lead to detachment if untreated.
